Our Impact

We envision a world where girls live free from violence

THE ISSUE

Violence against girls is a widespread and catastrophic global crisis.
Globally one girl under the age of 15 is married every seven seconds. As of 2024 230 million girls and women have undergone Female Genital Mutilation and 120 million girls worldwide have experienced forced sexual violence at some point in their lives. More than 80% of girls( 9-18 years) living in the rural and border communities we work with in Kenya have experienced a form of violence with devastating long-term effects.

UNICEF estimates that the global pace of decline would need to be 27 times faster to end FGM by 2030 and that we need to go 20 times faster to end child marriage by 2030.

THE SOLUTION

The time to act to prevent violence against girls is now. We know violence against girls is preventable, since 2011 we have worked with girls and their communities to prevent and respond to various forms of violence against girls living in rural and cross-border communities in Kenya through girl-led and girl-centered approaches.

We are girl-led and girl-centered driven by the fact that conventional prevention and response strategies often exclude girls, even though adolescent girls experience devastating rates of violence. Our multi-faceted and intersectional work responds to individual girls and collective needs.

GIRLS EDUCATION

We provide full secondary scholarships and school essentials like uniforms, shoes, books and personal effects to the most vulnerable girls ages 9-18. Over the past twelve years, we’ve directly supported more than 2,000  girls to access both primary and secondary school education. We invest in girls' transition and completion of secondary education, which has been evidenced to serve as a stronger and more consistent protection against child marriage.
